Splitting iteration methods for saddle point linear systems

Linear systems of saddle point type arise in many areas of  scientific computing and engineering applications. We will introduce some well-known as well as several  new splitting iteration methods and  their convergence theoriesfor this class of problems.

Superlinear convergence of Preconditioned Conjugate Gradients using incomplete factorizations.

We present an analytic description of the asymptotic eigenvalue distribution of matrices obtained by discretizing elliptic problems by finite differences. A special emphasis is given to classical incomplete factorization preconditioners like ILU(O), MILU or their relaxed counterparts. Our asymptotic results confirm and extend previous findings of Axelsson, Chan and Elman. The formulas for the asymptotic eigenvalue distribution are used to predict and compare the superlinear convergence rates of Preconditioned Conjugate Gradients.
